Be sure to choose the type of software you are interested in (canned, customized or tailored) and then cautiously select a vendor which meets each of your requirements and has the capability and history of performing as required. Possibly set up a project team which will help the organization stay on track and this team can be placed in charge of learning the system and helping to train other members of the company on the operations of the applications.
Next decide the amount of customization your organization will require. Most out-of-the-box systems are designed for only one set type of processes and procedures. Because each individual organization is unique in their own way it is important to remember that these systems may not meet the functionality that you are looking for.
